Pronouns in Luganda
Learn the basic personal pronouns in Luganda — I, you, he/she, we, you (plural) and they — and how to use them in simple phrases and everyday conversation. By the end, you'll be able to recognise the core pronouns and start building short sentences.
1 Introduction & Theory
Pronouns are words we use instead of names or nouns when talking about people. Instead of saying "Rogers is fine," we can say "He is fine." Words like I, you, he and she are pronouns.
In Luganda, pronouns are important because they show who is doing an action or who is being talked about. They help make sentences shorter and easier to understand. Learning the pronouns early helps you form simple sentences and basic conversations.
2 Pronouns List

| Bo | They / Them |
- Ggwe is used when speaking to one person.
- Mmwe is used when speaking to more than one person.
- Ye can mean he or she — Luganda does not separate gender in this pronoun.
